What's Responsible For Teeth to Become Yellow?
White teeth are naturally gifted to us, but because of some factors our teeth lose their original sparkle and become dull and yellow.
Yellow teeth can be the result of two things majorly, either your enamel has been stained or you have plaque build up on your teeth.
Enamel is the outermost layer or a white covering of your teeth that gives them their sparkling white colour. It can be stained by certain food items and may start looking yellow.
Plaque is a type of bacterial outgrowth on your teeth that makes them look yellow. It is caused by bacteria Streptococcus mutans. It erodes the enamel and slowly degrade your teeth.
Sometimes your teeth become sensitive and look yellow because of degradation of enamel, revealing dentin. Dentin is a hard bony tissue that's found under the teeth. It's naturally yellow in colour.
People know that yellow teeth can be converted into white that's why they go for those expensive whitening kits, but do you know a lot of things from your kitchen can help you too? Here are some homemade remedies that'll help in getting rid of those yellow teeth and get your old sparkling white teeth back.
Homemade Remedies
The teeth whitening products available in the market contain bleach. Bleach turns your teeth white but it's really bad for your teeth as well as your overall health.
Here are some simple homemade remedies that you can use to get whiter teeth.
1. Neem branch
Everyone knows how significantly useful neem is to all of us.
It's also claimed to whiten teeth. The elder folks in India who lived in villages used neem branches to brush their teeth. Neem has antibacterial properties that help in stopping the outgrowth of plaque henceforth, whitens your teeth.
All you have to do is to get a neem branch of about six inches from a nearby neem tree and rub it on your teeth like you do when you brush your teeth. The result will be a little slow but it will be a sure shot.
2. Baking Soda
Baking soda is claimed to be a natural teeth whitening agent.
It's not scientifically proven but several studies have shown that brushing baking soda on your teeth for about a month showed significant results. It is basic in nature so helps in maintaining pH of your mouth which helps in preventing bacterial out growth.
Here's how to use it.
1.Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda with 2 teaspoons of water (ratio should always be 1:2 of baking soda and water).
2.Brush your teeth with this paste. But don't do it daily, do it on every alternate day.
3. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar has acetic acid that is claimed to be antibacterial. That's the main reason why apple cider vinegar is effective for teeth whitening.
But apple cider vinegar has a capacity to erode your enamel completely so it should be used in a diluted form just a few times a week.
Here's how you can use it.
1.Mix 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in 1 glass water (about 200 ml).
2. Mix them well and use the solution as a mouthwash.
If you feel irritation or burning sensation then spit the vinegar and gargle with cold water. Use more diluted forms after that. Buy Apple cider vinegar online here.
4. Activated Charcoal
Activated charcoal can be used for brushing your teeth. It can help in removing stains and toxins from your teeth making them whiter and brighter.
You can brush your teeth directly with activated charcoal. After brushing your teeth with your normal toothpaste, brush your teeth with charcoal for 5 minutes. Buy activated charcoal online here.
5.Fruit peels
It's claimed that fruit peels of banana, oranges and lemons help in teeth whitening. It is not scientifically proven but quite a number of studies show that.
Oranges and lemons are citrus fruits that means they contain citric acid. High concentration of citric acid may cause your enamel to erode, that's why it's advised to use their peels as they have a lower concentration. Citric acid has antibacterial properties that helps in getting rid of the bacteria.
Simply take a fresh peel of orange, lemon or banana and rub it on your teeth.
6. Limit the use of Staining Beverages
Tea, coffee, red wine and soda are claimed to cause teeth staining that causes them to look yellow. If you reduce the consumption of such beverages then your teeth won't become yellow.
This is a prevention for saving your teeth to become yellow. I am not asking you to stop taking these drinks, but just to reduce their intake or you can simply gargle after drinking these beverages for preventing stains.
Conclusion
Some people have natural white teeth, some people have natural yellow teeth too. Yellow teeth might not be a critical health condition but still one should consult a dentist to check their enamel levels and if there are any signs of tooth decay. The homemade remedies mentioned above can help you to get your teeth white.
