PRICKLY HEAT OR GHAMORIYA (घमोरियां) : EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM

 Overview:

Heat rash or prickly heat or ghamoriya (hindi: घमोरियां) is a condition in which a rash appears on the skin when sweat becomes trapped between the layers of skin.
It is a condition that can be found in both adults and babies.

Causes:-

Prickly heat's diagnostic name is miliaria rubra. It is more common in children because their sweat glands are in the developing stage.

Summer brings hot weather and humidity and that's the time when prickly heat grow the most. When we feel hot during summers, we start  sweating profusely. That's because our body produces sweat to cool down our skin and maintain our body temperature.

When you sweat more than usual, your sweat glands become overwhelmed. Because of that the sweat ducts might get clogged or jammed and sweat seeps between the layers of skin. This trapped sweat becomes a hotspot for bacterial infection and thus causing inflammation.

Symptoms:-

Symptoms of heat rash are very straightforward and I think everyone can identify them just in one look. But still we are telling you about the symptoms so that all your doubts can be solved.

The infected skin has red rashes or bumps all over the area, with a lot of itching. It's most commonly seen on the neck, shoulder, chest and back, basically all those areas where clothes rub with your skin.

Sometimes the red bumps convert into a patch of very small blisters. Other times the infected area might appear swollen and itch uncontrollably.

Prevention and Treatment:-

Prickly heat is not a life altering disease.
It's just a simple skin disorder that occurs because of heat and sweat. It's prevention and treatment is almost similar. You have to do almost everything similarly either you get infected or you want to prevent yourself from infection.
Here are some tips.
1. If you know you are sensitive to prickly heat, try to avoid getting in situations where you might sweat profusely.

2. Always wear loose fitting clothes in summer.

3. Wear clothes made of cotton fabric during summers. They are known to absorb sweat.

4. Take cool showers frequently if you are living in hot and humid climates.

For treatment we generally use those powders that contain menthol and camphor. They have a cooling effect on inflamed skin healing prickly heat quickly. You can use aloe vera gel too to treat your heat rash. Buy aloe vera gel online here.

Conclusion:-

Prickly heat is something that we have grown us with because they always come at least once during summers. We always treat them with powders but we never knew the science behind that. That's why we are here.
